[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hy are stars one of the symbols of Christmas? Stars are one way God sends a message to those who have hearts of faith. The wise men followed a special star that led them to the place where Christ was born. We sing about that star in some of our Christmas carols.

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star
O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to thy Perfect Light
Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never Over us all to reign
O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light
Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Prayer and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high
O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb
O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light
Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia Earth to heav’n replies
O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light [/learn_more]
God gave a number of promises , and one of them was to Abraham:
He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars–if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” – Genesis 15:5
His name was still Abram, and he didn’t have any children, it also looked impossible to have any. But God promised him that his descendents would be more than the stars in the sky looked to be. That was a star message that Abraham could always remember when he looked up into the night sky.
[box] Go outside after dark and look up into the night sky. If it is a clear night you can see many, many stars. Try to count them. Can you?[/box]

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]o God’s promises seem too big to you? Or do they seem like they were just for people who are recorded in the bible?
[GARD align=”right”]
When was the last time you felt one of God’s promises were for you?
I went through a time when my duties and responsibilities seemed large and my strength seemed small. I found a promise in the Bible and I put my finger on the page, said it out loud, and believed it was true for me.
Every time I felt I didn’t have the energy to take care of my home and children, when I seemed to run out of steam when it came to accomplishing the things that needed to be done, that promise encouraged me. It also proved true over time.
This was the promise:
30Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. -Isaiah 40:30,31
Do you have a promise that is like a star for you to look up to, remember, and follow? God faithfully comes through on his promises.
Jesus came as a result of a promise that God decided upon long before He even made the world and all the people in it. Stars in the sky help me realize how big God is, how far his reach, how vast his sight and ability must be. When you hang a star on a Christmas tree, or look up into the night sky… what do you think about?
