Of course, some added extras make the event spectacular: themed decorations and music for the season.
Now that makes a party!
Some people like to throw a Jesus party for Christmas. It is His birthday, after all! and it has all the right components:
The right people? “Family, loved ones, and Jesus” √
The right reason? “Celebrating the Advent of Jesus Christ √
The right food? “All those Christmas goodies, beverages, and meals” √√√
Plus the sparkly, tinseled, colorful decor, and beautiful music from every music style imaginable… and that is why we all love this season so much.
You know, though, there is nothing more sad than throwing a wonderful event and then forgetting to invite someone important, like the main honored person. A Christmas festivity without inviting Jesus into the center room is like that. Let’s make sure our perfectly planned party makes room at the table for the Lord Jesus.
We’ve been sharing ways to invite him this week, and honoring his presence with us. Today, one way to recognize God’s presence is to remember to thank him. There are many things to thank God for, from good health if you have it to good food. Friends, fun things to do, the ability to smell and taste.
When I want to experience the presence of God, I create a quiet space in my life… sitting in a room with either no background sounds or with only soft music, and then I think about Him. It is as simple as that.
I invite you to do that today, during your devotional time with the Advent candles lit, quietly take time to remember He is there, and the center of it all
