The scripture for today is :
Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.
While there are plenty of angels busy during the time of the advent of Christ, a main role is played by women; especially mothers.
St. Elizabeth
Elizabeth was one such mother, a woman who found herself in special circumstances, guided by her profound faith to become a very important person in the eternal scope of God’s great plan for the manifestation of His promises. She, the mother of John the Baptist, believed and rejoiced in God’s promises. Later she would find her young kinswoman Mary would also become a mother, believing and rejoicing in what God revealed.
Both women had challenges to face surrounding their journey to motherhood, that event that many take for granted. Any woman who has struggled to become pregnant with a child, though, would understand Elizabeth. Like Hannah of the times of the Judges, Elizabeth knew what it was to be desperate to have a child of her own.
Perhaps it was that very furnace of trials that prepared her to be able to give her son to God’s plan, and to unselfishly rejoice in Mary’s exalted state.
Elizabeth hailed Mary’s arrival with these words: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Have you ever found yourself waiting desperately for an answer from God that seems to never come? Are you ready to be thankful, whatever God’s timing seems to be? Does grace or bitterness fill your heart during times of disappointment?
Let go of the bitter and disappointed feeling, embrace faith for the new opportunities that will come.
