An important part of our christmas celebration must be in the songs that we sing and listen to… the Carols.
There are so many types, some handed down from centuries past to those written just this season. We don’t need to be bored with Christmas carols, songs, or hymns. My favorites will instantly lift me into the holiday mood.
What Makes Carols Unique?
From the Old French carole, a circle dance, the type of music we think of as “carols” came from this music accompanying the religious processions and plays which recounted the stories of the bible.
The popularity of such singing waxed and waned, until the Victorian Age, when the holiday season took on the excess of the times, along with its sentimentality. Not only were old songs resurrected, but new ones were penned.
Their original intent of inspiring festive feelings of praise and joy have become an institution in our homes.
At our house, we always sing these songs during our home devotions, and they are woven into Church praise and worship, too.

Scripture for Today:
Psalms 96:1-2
Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
