One of the first tree decorations I had in my newly married life was a paper chain that I made, carrying on the tradition that I had experienced as a child. Because they don’t cost hardly anything at all, are easy for the most craft-challenged (even little children can make them), and are fun to make, this was the perfect Christmas decoration for that first year.
I haven’t made them for years, but this little twist has me deciding that it is not too late to create an tradition once more.
Adding Life To AÂ Link
Each link of a paper chain is made of a strip of construction paper. We always used red and green Christmas colors back in the 50’s and 60’s; I suppose you could color coordinate it to your tree theme now.
For the life part, have every one write their favorite scripture verse reference on the link before gluing into a circle.
Then, during devotions or just sitting around the tree together, remove a couple of the links, open them, and read the scriptures together.
The Bible verses could be from the Christmas story or the prophets, or any of the promises that are especially dear.
It could be a Bible reading time, or a discussion time, or however your family most likes to use it for a time to center on the spiritual importance of Advent.
I hope you enjoy this celebration idea this Christmas season.
