The Magi, Wise Men
Long, long before Jesus was born, there were prophecies written about his coming. Daniel was taken captive into Babylonia and was one of the prophets who wrote down some of those clues.
The Magi, men who studied such things as well as the stars for signs, pored over the writings and were ready to seek the promised King. The gifts they prepared were worth a fortune. It was a provision that God provided for the welfare of the Holy Family.
From the early fathers, God revealed that He would provide. He was recognized by this in his name, Jehovah-Jireh.
Provision
It may be “just enough”, eating our daily bread, or it may be abundance with plenty left over to give, but God shows us that he loves to give. We can look with thankfulness when we have plenty, and pray with faith when we have need. Both conditions can give us insights into an attitude of gratefulness.
Too often we are satisfied to simply enjoy our own well being. During this season, besides being more kind and giving for the week up until Christmas Day, let the spirit of generosity take root. Make it a lifestyle habit carried into the coming year.
God gave the world his Son to make an everlasting difference. Our celebration of Him is to grow each day, making the world a brighter and brighter place.
Prayer
Thank you Heavenly Father for providing all our needs so richly. Thank you for making it so easy for us to give to others and share. We enjoy our blessings, but also wish to be part of helping others to have their daily needs met. Open our eyes to see, open our hearts to give.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
